In the Meanwhile

Sometimes, in the sufferings of this current existence, I feel like Job and say, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15). However, as I think about the “worst case scenario,” as He keeps me alive for His purposes my prayer is becoming, “Though He slay me NOT, yet will I trust in Him.”

So we keep on keeping on. It’s His life and work in us that is producing the fruit that will prosper His plan of the ages. We eagerly anticipate the fulfillment of His glorious purpose that He will one day be “All in all” (I Corinthians 15:28). In the meanwhile, we rejoice that He is being All in us as we are being used as His chosen vessels for His purpose for this age, and soon to be His purpose for us in the celestials in the coming ages.

There is something about suffering that longs for someone to sit with us through the pain. It’s the fellowship of suffering. It’s the words “you are not alone” put into action. … More than a card or a casserole, the familiar, patient presence of another says to us “it’s too much for you to bear, but I will be with you, I will sit with you.”

The Mind of Heaven

If ye, then, be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God. Mind the things above, not the things on the earth; for ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:1-3).

The system of things on the earth is the subject of the long-suffering and forbearance of God. How needful for us thus to be heavenly-minded, and to bear with it as God does; not avenging ourselves, and showing the same grace towards it that He shows. Here, truly, is the wonderful glory of the mind of heaven – the power to endure.

Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercy, humbleness of mind, forbearance and longsuffering (Colossians 3:12).

This is the mind of heaven.
